Viamistad has initiated an educational program: The first and only inclusive middle school in Guatemala. In the whole country, in the public school system, special education for children with disabilities only exists for the elementary level. Every year we are adding a new class until having three years of intermediate school. Our graduates will be able to continue their education at the high school level and enter into professions or qualify for many jobs that require a minimum of middle school completion.
The middle school is certified by the Ministry of Education of Guatemala.
Thank you to Brillo de Sol for being our partner in education. This partnership enables us to certify the middle school program under the Ministry of Education. Additionally, we share personnel, the school building, and many other resources due to our alliance with the Brillo de Sol Association of Guatemala.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the school functions entirely on Zoom. When we return to in-person learning, there will continue to be a virtual option for students who live far away.
