Viamistad helps eliminate obstacles that members of our community might face due to the combination of poverty and disability. When a friend finds herself in a health crisis, Viamistad offers direct assistance so that she receives immediate needed medical attention.
Additionally, we help with funeral costs and other emergencies that arise in our community.
In 2017 Viamistad helped our friend and camp participant Salvador Ajtujal with a construction project in his house so that he could move around independently using his electric chair. Prior to attending camp, Salvador had not ever left his block in Santiago Atitlan, Solola. He has cerebral palsy.
Viamistad provides wheelchairs and walkers to friends in need, in addition to direct economic help for various needs that arise.
The majority of our families live in poverty.
